Steps

1

Explore Early Childhood Classes

At Hoff-Barthelson, children aged 3 and up can join 'First Instrument Classes' designed to prepare them for private instruction. These small group classes cover basic playing techniques and musical expression in instruments like piano, violin, cello, flute, brass, and guitar. Each session culminates with a trial private lesson, allowing children to experience one-on-one instruction. Classes start on September 21, 2024, and run until May 31, 2025.

By starting with group classes, children can learn in a fun and social environment while developing foundational skills.

Schedule a Placement Meeting

Before enrolling in classes, families interested in specific programs, such as cello or guitar, must schedule a placement meeting. This meeting helps assess your child's readiness for classes and provides personalized recommendations. It’s an essential step to ensure your child starts with the right level of instruction.

A placement meeting allows for tailored guidance based on your child's individual skills and interests.

Purchase Required Materials

Once classes are confirmed, ensure you have the necessary materials, such as instruments for the specific classes. For instance, families must purchase their own HelloCellos before starting cello classes. This preparation is crucial for your child to participate fully in their lessons.

Having the right materials ready ensures a smooth start to your child's musical education.

Meet with the Dean

To gain deeper insights into your child's music education journey, schedule a meeting with the dean. This meeting will help clarify any questions you may have regarding the curriculum and your child's progress. It's an excellent opportunity to discuss future steps and set goals.

Meeting with the dean allows for personalized advice and a clear understanding of what to expect moving forward.
